Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response covers all three charts effectively, identifying key trends and making relevant comparisons. You successfully highlighted the dominant age group (18-64) and the most popular loan categories (fiction). The trend description for the total loans is clear, noting the overall increase and the peak in 2011. However, the report could be improved by ensuring all data points are accurate; for instance, the description of the loan categories contains some minor inaccuracies regarding the percentages provided in the prompt. Overall, the response provides a clear overview and addresses the requirements of the task well.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized into four distinct paragraphs: an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs focusing on membership and loan trends respectively. The progression of ideas is clear. You use some cohesive devices such as 'in addition', 'regarding', and 'while', which help the flow. However, the use of punctuation is inconsistent, particularly with missing spaces after periods and commas, which occasionally disrupts the reading flow. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring consistent paragraph structure would help elevate this score further.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'proportion', 'fluctuations', and 'categories' appropriately. There are some minor errors in word choice, such as 'children fiction' instead of 'children's fiction' and 'adult aged' instead of 'adults aged'. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the meaning clearly, it lacks the sophistication and precision required for higher bands. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and ensuring correct word forms when describing data.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent errors in punctuation, such as missing spaces after punctuation marks and inconsistent capitalization. There are also minor grammatical slips, such as 'children accounted 22 %' (missing 'for') and 'remain unchanged' (should be 'remained'). These errors do not impede communication, but they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy and punctuation would significantly improve the quality of your writing.
