Student answer (Band 5.0)

The charts illustrates loans taken from library, members at library and loans by category.

The pie chart states that there is an huge amount of adult members who visits library which is due to studying or interest in novels. There can be seen a good amount of children who come to the libarary as many children are fond of reading comics. The members of young adult and adult over 65 are comparatively less than the two may be due to as elderly people usually spend time at home.

The table is describing that children's fiction and adult fiction has massive number of loans while children's non-fiction is comparatively very less than children's fiction. Same situation can be seen in adult's non-fiction but there is slight decrease. Children's dvd, young adult and adult audio books are the least loans which can be seen.

The bar graph tells us about total number of loans there is no proper sequence or pattern the graph is sometimes at peak or at bottom but as of last three years the graph keeps on increasing which is maintained and gradually increasing.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response covers all three charts, but the analysis is superficial and lacks data precision. While you identify general trends, you fail to include specific figures from the charts to support your claims. For example, when discussing the bar graph, you mention it 'keeps on increasing' but do not provide the actual loan numbers or the time frame. Furthermore, the interpretation of the pie chart relies on speculation ('due to studying or interest in novels') rather than reporting the data provided. To improve, focus on selecting key data points and comparing them directly rather than offering subjective explanations for the trends.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is limited and somewhat mechanical. Phrases like 'The pie chart states' and 'The table is describing' are repetitive. There is a lack of logical flow between sentences, and the transition between the description of the table and the bar graph is abrupt. To reach a higher band, you should use a wider variety of linking words and phrases (e.g., 'In contrast,' 'Furthermore,' 'Regarding the...') to connect your ideas more fluidly and improve the overall progression of the report.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. You rely on basic descriptors like 'huge amount,' 'good amount,' and 'very less,' which are not appropriate for academic writing. There are also some minor errors in word choice, such as 'The charts illustrates' (subject-verb agreement) and 'libarary' (spelling). To improve, you should aim for more precise terminology, such as 'a significant proportion,' 'a marginal decrease,' or 'a steady upward trend.' Expanding your range of synonyms will help you avoid repetitive phrasing and demonstrate a better command of the language.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains several grammatical errors that occasionally hinder clarity. There are issues with subject-verb agreement ('The charts illustrates'), article usage ('visits library'), and sentence structure. Many sentences are simple or contain awkward phrasing, such as 'There can be seen a good amount of children.' While the meaning is generally understandable, the lack of complex sentence structures and the frequency of errors in basic grammar limit the score. Focusing on consistent verb tense usage and correct article placement will significantly improve the accuracy of your writing.
