Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers the main features of the charts, but the presentation is somewhat mechanical and lacks a clear overview. While you identified the age groups and loan categories, the description of the line graph is repetitive and lacks analytical comparison. The 'overview' paragraph is weak as it merely lists what the charts show rather than highlighting significant trends or differences. To improve, focus on grouping data logically and identifying the most striking features, such as the overall upward trend in loans or the dominance of fiction categories, rather than listing every data point.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often repetitive and sometimes misused (e.g., 'Firstly', 'Secondly', 'On the other hand'). The transition between sentences is occasionally abrupt, and the referencing is sometimes unclear, such as in the description of the line graph where the flow of information feels like a list of numbers rather than a cohesive narrative. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring they are used to connect ideas logically, rather than just marking the start of a sentence, will help improve the flow.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision required for a higher band. There is significant repetition of words like 'loan', 'spent', and 'number'. Some word choices are inaccurate, such as referring to the number of loans as 'the price of loan'. To achieve a higher score, you should aim to use a wider range of vocabulary to describe trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'peaked', 'remained stable', or 'accounted for'. Avoid using informal phrasing like 'gives me information' and instead use more academic language like 'illustrates' or 'depicts'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains a mix of simple and complex structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'the age of young adults who member of the library'), missing articles, and awkward phrasing (e.g., 'the loan who was spent'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage in lists. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors prevents the response from reaching a higher band. Focus on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and ensuring that sentences are complete and correctly punctuated.
