Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response attempts to summarize the provided charts but fails to clearly distinguish between the two distinct data sets (the trend of loans over time and the breakdown of loan categories). The description of the data is somewhat confusing, particularly the attempt to group age categories with loan types. While the main features are mentioned, the lack of a clear overview and the inaccurate grouping of data points mean the information is not fully or accurately reported. To improve, ensure you separate the trend analysis from the categorical breakdown and provide a more precise summary of the key features.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay lacks a clear structure. The introduction is brief, and the body paragraphs are not clearly demarcated, leading to a disjointed flow of information. The use of cohesive devices is limited and sometimes mechanical, such as the repetitive use of 'category' and 'includes'. The logical progression of ideas is hindered by the way the data is presented, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison between the different age groups and loan types. Improving paragraphing and using a wider variety of linking words would significantly enhance the coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is somewhat limited and repetitive. Phrases like 'category includes' are used repeatedly, which restricts the range of expression. There are also some awkward collocations and word choices, such as 'children's non-fiction is comparatively less in percentage'. While the meaning is generally clear, the lack of variety and the reliance on basic vocabulary prevent the response from reaching a higher band. Incorporating more precise terminology related to data description, such as 'accounted for', 'constituted', or 'fluctuated', would demonstrate a better command of lexical resources.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex structures, but there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation. For example, 'Library members includes children's' contains a subject-verb agreement error, and the punctuation around 'Little Chalfont .' is incorrect. Additionally, there are issues with articles and pluralization, such as 'children's non-fiction is comparatively less in percentage'. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to affect the overall quality of the writing. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for subject-verb agreement will help improve your score.
