Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the charts, such as the loan categories and the trend over time. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial. For instance, you mention that 38% of loans were for fiction, but you do not explicitly compare the categories or highlight the most significant trends effectively. The overview is missing; a summary should clearly state the overall trend (e.g., the general increase in loans) rather than just listing data points. Additionally, the description of the trend from 2007-2016 is slightly inaccurate, as you describe a 'decline' in 2013 when the graph shows a fluctuation. More precise data reporting is needed to reach a higher band.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The response is organised into two main sections, which helps the reader follow the information. However, the use of cohesive devices is mechanical and repetitive. Phrases like 'After that' and 'They also gives us' are used to link sentences, but they lack variety and sophistication. Paragraphing is present but could be improved by separating the overview from the specific details. The logical progression is sometimes hindered by awkward phrasing, making the flow feel a bit disjointed. To improve, try using a wider range of linking words such as 'consequently', 'in contrast', or 'subsequently' to connect ideas more fluidly.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive. You frequently use the word 'loan' and 'data' throughout the text. There are also errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'loan were took' (should be 'loans were taken') and 'the amount of loan was loan' (which is unclear). While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the basic meaning, it lacks the precision and range required for a higher band. You should aim to use more varied terminology related to data description, such as 'proportion', 'fluctuated', 'witnessed', or 'accounted for', to demonstrate a wider lexical range.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'the amount of loan were increased' (subject-verb agreement error) and 'They also gives us' (incorrect verb form). The passive voice is attempted but often constructed incorrectly, such as 'loan were took'. Punctuation is generally acceptable, but the sentence structure remains quite basic. To improve, focus on mastering subject-verb agreement and the correct formation of passive structures, which are essential for describing charts and graphs accurately.
