Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
You have identified the main features of the charts, such as the age distribution and the loan categories. However, the response lacks a clear overview, which is essential for a Band 6 or higher. You have listed data points without effectively synthesising the information or making meaningful comparisons between the three charts. For instance, you mention the highest and lowest values but do not explain the broader trends or relationships between the data sets. To improve, ensure you provide a summary paragraph that highlights the most significant trends across all three visuals rather than just describing them individually.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The response is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive (e.g., 'According to this chart', 'While the...'). The transition between the pie chart and the bar graph is abrupt. To improve, use a wider variety of linking words and phrases to connect your ideas more fluidly, such as 'In contrast', 'Furthermore', or 'Regarding the trends over time'. Ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence to guide the reader through the data.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it is quite repetitive. You frequently use basic verbs like 'showing' and 'accounts'. There is a lack of variety in how you describe data trends. For example, instead of saying 'highest in number', you could use 'the most significant proportion' or 'the dominant category'. Additionally, there are some minor errors in word choice, such as 'Pie Chart table', which is confusing. Expanding your range of synonyms for 'increase', 'decrease', and 'proportion' will help you achieve a higher score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation. For example, 'According this chart' is missing a preposition, and there are issues with article usage (e.g., 'The Pie chart is showing...'). Some sentences are fragmented or lack proper punctuation, such as 'Children fiction accounts 38% being the highest in number.' To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles. Ensure that your sentences are complete and grammatically sound by proofreading for small errors that can accumulate.
