Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers all three visual elements, but the reporting of data is inconsistent and lacks precision. While you identify the main age group (18-64) and the loan trends, the description of the book categories is vague, stating 'very few members' without referencing the actual percentages provided in the table. Furthermore, the description of the bar graph is inaccurate; you state the figures increased from 16,000 to 19,000 in 2007, but the chart shows the 2007 figure was 16,000 and the 2016 figure was 22,000. To improve, ensure you accurately transcribe data points and provide a more comprehensive overview of the key features rather than listing details in isolation.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive. Phrases like 'First and foremost' and 'At last' feel slightly forced. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally unclear; for example, in the second paragraph, you mention 'Table shows loan taken', but the connection between the paragraphs could be smoother. To achieve a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that guides the reader through the data comparison.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision required for higher bands. There are several awkward collocations and word choices, such as 'non-private library' (public library), 'mostly library members' (the majority of members), and 'accountable for' (accounted for). The repetition of 'taken as loan' is also noticeable. To improve, try to use more precise terminology related to data reporting, such as 'fluctuated', 'accounted for', or 'constituted', and avoid repeating the same phrases throughout the text. Expanding your range of synonyms will help you describe the data more naturally.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Issues include subject-verb agreement ('The pie chart... illustrates'), incorrect preposition usage ('depicts about'), and awkward phrasing ('The children and young adults members accountable for'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with parentheses and commas. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction and subject-verb agreement. Ensure that you proofread your work to catch minor errors in articles and prepositions, which currently detract from the overall accuracy of your writing.
