IELTS Writing Task 1 question

The charts below give information about a public library in a town called Little Chalfont.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

 

Student answer (Band 6.5)

The given charts provide insights about a public library in Little Chalfont.

Overall, the pie chart, the table and the bar chart illustrate the age of library members (2016), the loans by category (2016) and the total number of loans ([redacted phone]) respectively.

The pie chart depicts that the adults account for the highest proportion of 51% who visited the Little Chalfont Library in 2016. The second largest percentage of people is 22% for children. The figures for young adults and adults 65 and over are quite close that is 15% and 12% respectively.

As far as the loans by category are concerned, Children's fiction and adult fiction have a same figure of 38% in 2016, also making the highest of the table. The percentage of adults borrowing loans for non-fiction books is 13%. Additionally, the other categories share minutiae of the table with children non-fiction (6%), Young adults and adult audio books (2%), and Children's non-fiction (6%) in 2016.

If the total number of loans over the course of 2007 to 2016 is considered, the graph is overall balanced with slight fluctuations that can be seen over years. In 2007, the amount of loans stroke 15,000. In 2008, the loan rose up to 18,000 which stayed constant for 2009 as well. However, a minor increment can bee seen after 2009, the amount jumped form 18,000 to approximately 22,000 which stayed same for the three preceding years 2010, 2011 and 2012. Afterwards, the amount fluctuated a bit but elevated to a number of 22,000 by 2016.
