IELTS Writing Task 1 question
The charts below give information about a public library in a town called Little Chalfont.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Student answer (Band 5.5)
The pie chart illustrates the age distribution of library members in Little Chalfont library in 2016, and the table provides information about the percentages of seven different categories loans in the same year, while the accompanying bar graph shows the total numbers of loans from 2007 to 2016.
Overall, adults aged between 18 and 64 made up the largest members among the others aged groups. The childern’s fiction and adult fiction represented the highest loans, while the total numbers of loans experienced gradual increase despite a mild dip throughout the period.
Looking at age distribution of library members in 2016, adults aged from 18 to 64 accounted for the majority of members at almost half, equivalent to 51%, followed by the second-highest contributor, which was children at 22%. While young adults 13-17 and adults aged 65 and over represented the lowest share at 15% and only 12% respectively.
Regarding the total loans by category, both childern’s fiction and adult fiction consitituted the majority of loans at 38% each, with adult non-fiction recoding 13%, while childern’s fiction registered 6%. By contrast, young adults and adults audio books accounted for 2% each and the least percenatge of share was for childern’s DVDs at 1%.
Finally, the total numbers of loans witnessed a consistent rise throught from 2007 at just over 15,000 to 2016 at just over 20,000, with slight dip in
