The charts below give information about a public library in a town called Little Chalfont.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Student answer (Band 7.5)
The charts provide information about the membership of Little Chalfont Library by age, the categories of items borrowed in 2016, and the total number of loans from 2007 to 2016.
Overall, adults aged 18-64 made up the largest proportion of library members, while children's fiction and adult fiction were the most borrowed categories, and the total number of loans rose from 2007 to 2016.
In 2016, adults aged 18–64 accounted for 51% of members, followed by children at 22%. Young adults aged 13–17 represented 15%, while people aged 65 and over made up 12%.
Regarding loans, children’s fiction and adult fiction were equally popular, at 38% each. Adult non-fiction accounted for 13%, followed by children’s non-fiction at 6%. Young adult books and adult audio books each represented 2%, while children’s DVDs were least popular at just 1%.
The total number of loans rose from approximately 16,000 in 2007 to around 21,500 in 2016. The figure increased sharply to about 18,800 in 2008 and remained fairly stable in 2009. It then climbed to just over 21,000 in 2011 before fluctuating slightly. After a dip to around 19,500 in 2013, loans increased steadily to reach their highest level in 2016.
