Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers all three charts, providing a summary of the main features and some comparisons. However, the analysis is somewhat mechanical, listing data points rather than synthesising information effectively. For instance, the description of the bar chart is a repetitive list of year-by-year figures rather than identifying the overall trend. While the key features are present, the lack of a clear overview or a more analytical approach to the data limits the score. To improve, you should group data more logically and highlight significant trends or contrasts rather than simply transcribing numbers.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is quite limited and repetitive (e.g., 'In pie chart', 'In table chart', 'In bart chart'). The progression of ideas is somewhat disjointed, as the sentences often feel like isolated statements rather than a cohesive narrative. The conclusion is also quite weak, merely repeating the introduction rather than summarising the main findings. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would significantly enhance the flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. There are several spelling errors (e.g., 'chalfont', 'stabe', 'bart', 'catagories') and some awkward phrasing, such as 'highest ratio of library members... among adults'. The range of vocabulary is limited, relying heavily on basic terms like 'highest', 'lowest', and 'increased'. To reach a higher band, you should incorporate more precise academic vocabulary related to data description, such as 'proportion', 'fluctuated', 'peaked', or 'remained stable', and ensure accurate spelling throughout.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Subject-verb agreement is often incorrect (e.g., 'The given charts illustrates', 'table chart demonstrate'). There are also missing articles and prepositions throughout the text, such as 'In pie chart' instead of 'In the pie chart'. While the meaning is generally clear, these persistent errors in basic grammar and punctuation hinder the overall quality of the writing. Focusing on sentence construction and proofreading for basic errors would be beneficial.
