The charts below give information about a public library in a town called Little Chalfont.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Student answer (Band 5.5)
The given chart illustrates the statistics of the public library located in the town called Little Chalfont. It includes the percentage of each category loan, and age of different library members.
There is pie-chart that explains the portion of each age group in library membership. According to this chart, adults posses the high percentage of 51 % of the complete chart. Children are on the second in the chart, in terms of membership. As children carry the 22 % , we can see the distance of young adults from books, as they are only 15 % of library members. Shockingly, adults over 65 years of age are least among the all. It is always think that people older than 50 study the books the most, however these stats are in contrast of it.
Loan table explains the percentages of loan availed in each category of book for year 2016. It states that highest loan ever took by library in any category is children's fiction that is 38 %. All other categories are also mentioned with their respective loan percentage.
On the bottom there is another graph that shows the total number of loans from year 2007 to 2016. It is pretty steady graph with small ups and downs.
In conclusion, these graphs shows the statistics of library membership, loan availed by library in each category, and total number of loans for certain range of years.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
You have identified the main features of the charts, such as the age distribution and the loan categories. However, the response lacks a clear overview or summary of the trends. You have included some personal commentary, such as 'Shockingly' and 'It is always think that people older than 50 study the books the most', which is inappropriate for an Academic Task 1 report. An IELTS report should remain objective and analytical rather than speculative. Furthermore, the description of the loan table and the line graph is quite brief and lacks the necessary comparative detail required to reach a higher band.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The response is organised into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the logical progression between ideas is sometimes weak. The use of cohesive devices is limited and occasionally mechanical, such as the repetitive use of 'It states that' or 'There is'. Some transitions feel abrupt, and the connection between the data points could be smoother. To improve, focus on using a wider range of linking words to connect your observations, such as 'In contrast', 'Furthermore', or 'Conversely', and ensure that each paragraph has a clear thematic focus.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the precision and variety expected at higher levels. You rely on basic phrasing like 'high percentage' or 'small ups and downs'. There are also some awkward collocations and word choices, such as 'loan availed' and 'distance of young adults from books'. To improve, try to use more academic vocabulary related to data description, such as 'fluctuated', 'accounted for', or 'a significant proportion'. Avoid informal or emotive language like 'shockingly' as it does not fit the formal tone required for this task.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include 'adults posses the high percentage', 'these stats are in contrast of it', and 'these graphs shows'. Subject-verb agreement and preposition usage are areas that need attention. While your meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these errors prevents the writing from being considered fluent. Focus on proofreading your work to catch basic errors in tense and agreement, and practice using more complex sentence structures accurately.
