Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers all three charts provided in the prompt. You successfully identified the main features, such as the dominant age group (adults 18-64) and the most popular borrowing categories (fiction). However, the analysis is somewhat descriptive rather than analytical. For instance, you list percentages without making sufficient comparisons between the categories or highlighting the significance of the trends. To reach a higher band, ensure you synthesize the data rather than just listing it. For example, noting that fiction accounts for over three-quarters of all loans combined would demonstrate a better grasp of the data's overall significance.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, each focusing on a specific chart. You use basic cohesive devices like 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'Thirdly' to signal the structure. However, the flow between sentences is occasionally mechanical, and some transitions are awkward, such as 'Other then that' and 'where, as'. The referencing is generally clear, but the paragraphing could be improved by ensuring that the overview is clearly separated from the body paragraphs. The use of cohesive devices is sufficient for a Band 6, but they lack the flexibility and sophistication required for higher bands.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'age distribution', 'dominant', and 'fluctuation'. However, there are several errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'borrowing item table' (should be 'table of borrowed items') and 'accounted for rest 5%' (should be 'accounted for the remaining 5%'). Additionally, there are minor spelling and punctuation issues, such as 'Other then that' (should be 'Other than that'). To improve, focus on using more precise terminology and ensuring that your word choices are grammatically appropriate for the context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('the' is often missing) and verb forms ('Charts provides' should be 'The charts provide'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with unnecessary commas used in phrases like 'where, as' and '15,000 to approximately 22,000 . with fluctuation'. These errors do not impede communication, but they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and consistent article usage would significantly improve the accuracy of your writing.
