IELTS Writing Task 1 question

The charts below give information about a public library in a town called Little Chalfont.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

 

Student answer (Band 6.5)

The charts provide information membership of the Little Chalfont Library in 2016, the types of material borrowed, and the total number of loans between 2007 and 2016.

Overall, adults aged 18-64 constituted by far the largest proportion of library members. Fiction was the most popular material borrowed by both children and adults, while the adults aged 65 and over were smallest group.

In 2016, adults aged 18-64 accounted for 51% of library members, followed by children at 22%. Young adult aged 13-17 represented 15%, while those aged 65 and over made up the remaining 12%.

The borrowing figure show that children's fiction and adult fiction were equally popular, each accounted for 38%, whereas the children's DVDs were the least popular item.

Finally, the total loans rose from approximately 15,500 in 2007 to around 20,000 in 2016. The number of loans peaked at just over 20,000 in 2011 before fluctuating slightly thereafter.
