IELTS Writing Task 1 question

The charts below give information about a public library in a town called Little Chalfont.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

 

Student answer (Band 6.0)

The pie chart, table and bar chart illustrate the data of public library in Little Chalfont in 2016 by age of members and types of loans, and total loans between 2007 and 2016.

Overall, working-age adults were the largest membership group, while children's fiction and adult fiction were the most borrowed categories. Total loans rose sharply after 2007, but than remained stable at around 19,000.

In 2016, adults aged 18-64 comprised 51% of membership, more than double the figure of children at 22%. Young adults 13-17 accounted for 15%, while adults 65 and over made up the smallest share at 12%.

Regarding loan categories, children's fiction and adult fiction each represented 38% of all loans. Adult non fiction accounted at 13%, followed by children's non fiction at 6%. Young adults and adult audio books both have similar figures at 2%, while children's DVDs were least popular at only 1%.

For total loans, about 15,000 were issued in 2007. This increased to around 18,000 in 2008 and fluctuated between 18,000 and 20,000. After that peaking at 20,000 in 2011 and stabled till 2016.
