Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the score. Because the response is only 92 words, the information is presented in a very truncated manner. While you have identified the main features (the age groups and their percentages), the analysis is underdeveloped. You have not provided a comprehensive summary or made sufficient comparisons between the categories. To improve, you must expand your description of the data, include all relevant figures, and ensure you reach the required length to allow for a full development of the task requirements.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response is organized into short paragraphs, which is a positive start. However, the progression of ideas is somewhat mechanical. The use of cohesive devices is limited; for example, you use 'Then' and 'However' to link sentences, but these are used in a basic way. The referencing is sometimes unclear, such as in the phrase 'These are below than 30%', where the antecedent is slightly ambiguous. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that your sentences flow more naturally into one another to create a more cohesive report.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is quite basic and repetitive. You rely on simple terms like 'maximum', 'users', and 'percentage'. There is little attempt to use more sophisticated or academic vocabulary appropriate for a data summary task. Additionally, there are errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'old age persons' instead of 'elderly people' or 'senior citizens'. To achieve a higher band, you should incorporate more precise vocabulary related to data description, such as 'account for', 'constitute', 'the largest proportion', and 'a significant minority'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains several grammatical errors that affect the clarity of your writing. For instance, 'The maximum users of library are adults' should be 'The largest group of library users are adults'. There are also issues with comparative structures, such as 'These are maximum than other users' and 'These are below than 30%'. The sentence structures are mostly simple, with very few attempts at complex sentences. To improve, focus on mastering comparative forms and ensuring subject-verb agreement. Increasing your range of sentence structures will also help you move up the band scale.
