Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the charts, but the presentation is somewhat disjointed and lacks a clear, analytical focus. While you identify the age groups and loan categories, the description of the data is often confusing. For instance, the statement '12 and a15 accounted by the young adults' is unclear, and the connection between the pie chart and the table is not fully explored. To improve, ensure that you group data logically and provide accurate comparisons rather than just listing figures. The overview is present but lacks clarity, failing to highlight the most significant trends effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the flow between ideas is often mechanical or confusing. The use of cohesive devices like 'However' and 'Moreover' is frequent but sometimes misused, such as starting the first paragraph with 'However' when it is not contrasting with a previous point. Referencing is occasionally unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the progression of information. To reach a higher band, focus on using transition words that accurately reflect the relationship between sentences and ensure that each paragraph has a clear, singular focus.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but there are several instances of awkward phrasing and word choice errors, such as 'loan taking ratio' and 'used the library a most'. You rely on basic terminology and struggle with collocations related to data description. While you attempt to use specific terms like 'proportion' and 'categories', the lack of precision hinders the overall quality. Expanding your range of reporting verbs and noun phrases related to statistics would significantly improve your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including issues with subject-verb agreement ('The presented pie chart depict'), article usage, and sentence structure. Many sentences are fragmented or contain confusing syntax, such as 'adults 65 to over age respectively'. While you attempt some complex structures, they are often inaccurate, which can impede the reader's understanding. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors like pluralisation and verb tense consistency.
