IELTS Writing Task 1 question

The charts below give information about a public library in a town called Little Chalfont.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

 

Student answer (Band 7.0)

The charts illustrate information about Little Chalfont Library, including the ages of its members in 2016, the categories of loans, and the total number of items borrowed from 2007 to 2016.

Overall, adults aged 18–64 formed the largest group of members, while those aged 65 and over were the smallest. Fiction was the most popular borrowing category, and total loans generally increased despite some fluctuations.

In terms of membership, 51% were adults aged 18–64. Children accounted for 22%, while young adults aged 13–17 represented 15%. The remaining 12% consisted of people aged 65 and over.

Regarding loans, adult and children's fiction were equally popular, each making up 38% of borrowing. Adult non-fiction accounted for 13%, compared with 6% for children's non-fiction. The other categories were much less popular, at only 1–2%.

Finally, total loans rose from about 15,000 in 2007 to 19,000 in 2016, peaking at around 20,000 in 2011
