Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have successfully identified the main features of the charts, including the age demographics, loan categories, and the trend over time. However, the response lacks a clear, cohesive overview that synthesizes the information. While you mention the highest and lowest points, the connection between the different charts is weak. To improve, ensure you provide a more analytical summary in the introduction or overview paragraph that highlights the most significant trends across all three data sets rather than just listing facts. Some data points, such as the 12% for seniors, were correctly identified, but the overall structure feels more like a list of observations than a comparative report.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The response is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the information. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive. For example, you frequently start sentences with 'The' or 'It can be observed'. There is a lack of sophisticated linking words to connect ideas between sentences and paragraphs. To reach a higher band, try using a wider variety of transition signals such as 'In contrast', 'Furthermore', or 'Consequently' to improve the flow of your writing. Additionally, ensure that each paragraph has a clear thematic focus to avoid jumping between disparate data points.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to convey the basic information clearly. You use terms like 'proportion', 'categories', and 'variation' correctly. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there is a tendency to repeat basic verbs like 'shows' and 'was'. To improve, incorporate more precise vocabulary related to data description, such as 'accounted for', 'fluctuated', 'peaked', or 'remained consistent'. There are also minor errors in word choice, such as 'Total loan on children's fictions', which would be more naturally phrased as 'The number of loans for children's fiction'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical inaccuracies, such as 'The graphs below illustrates' (subject-verb agreement) and 'Only, 12% of adults' (unnecessary comma). Additionally, the use of articles is inconsistent, such as 'on children's DVD's was lowest' (missing 'the'). To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles. While you attempt some complex structures, they are not always error-free. Increasing your control over punctuation and sentence variety will help you achieve a higher band score.
