IELTS Writing Task 1 question

The charts below give information about a public library in a town called Little Chalfont.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

 

Student answer (Band 6.5)

The charts illustrate the information based on three categoty such as age of library members, total loan by category, and total number of loans of Little Chalfont Library in a town.

It is clear that the most of the library members were the adults, while children's fiction and adult fiction books were more likely to be lent than any other book category. Furthermore, the total number of loans experienced a great fluctuation from 2007 to 2016.

Nearly half of the members in the library were adults, hovering around 51% in 2016. The second most prominent members were children, which stood at about 22%. In contrast, the other two groups young adults and adults 65 and over were holding lowest proportion around 15% and 12% respectively.

According to the total loans by category in 2016, children's fiction and adult fiction were the most popular options, which sums up around 38% for both categories. Moreover, adult non-fiction and children's non-fiction held about 13% and 6% respectively. Thus, the least popular book categories that only had 1% or 2% were children's DVDs, young adults, and adult audio books. The total number of loans showed positive growth from 2007 to 2011 before suffering a downward trend between 2011 and 2013. Finally, it showed positive growth and reached about 22,000 loans in 2016.
