IELTS Writing Task 1 question

The charts below give information about a public library in a town called Little Chalfont.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

 

Student answer (Band 6.5)

The pie chart illustrates the proportion of library members categorized by different age groups. The table depicts percentage of loans by each category, while the bar chart compares total number of loans from 2007 to 2016.

Overall, more than 50% of library members are adults, while the least are old-ages people. Children's fiction and Adult fiction accounts the highest percentage in terms of loan. And the figures of loan ranged from more than 15,000 to 22,000 people per year.

To start with, 51% of library members were adults, followed by children with 22%. Young adults represented 22% of membership, while old-aged members above 65 constituted 12%.

Talking about loan by category, Children's fiction and Adult fiction had the maximum percentage(38%) among all, which is followed by Adult non-fiction with 13%. Other categories ranged from 1% to 6% with Children's DVDs accounting the lowest proportion of 1% among these categories.

Total number of loans in 2007 were between 15,000 and 16,000, which increased till 2011 to 21,000. It then dipped to less than 20,000 in 2013 and again reach its peak to 22,000 in 2016.
