Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to cover the three charts provided, but the information is incomplete. The description of the age demographics and loan categories is present, but the final paragraph regarding the total number of loans is abruptly cut off, meaning the trend analysis for 2007–2016 is not fully reported. Furthermore, the data interpretation contains inaccuracies, such as stating '18-16' (an impossible age range) and misrepresenting the 2016 loan categories. While the main features are identified, the lack of completion and the presence of factual errors significantly hinder the overall task achievement.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is divided into paragraphs, but the structure is severely compromised by the incomplete final sentence and the lack of a concluding summary. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'firstly', 'while', and 'in addition', but they are often used mechanically or incorrectly. The flow of information is disjointed, particularly between the second and third paragraphs. The referencing is sometimes unclear, and the overall progression of ideas is interrupted by the unfinished state of the text, making the response difficult to follow in its entirety.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary range is limited and repetitive. There are frequent errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'gategories' instead of 'categories' and 'lagest' instead of 'largest'. The student relies on basic terminology and struggles to use precise language to describe statistical trends (e.g., 'showed by' instead of 'accounted for'). While the meaning is generally understandable, the persistent errors and lack of variety in lexical items prevent the response from reaching a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains a high frequency of grammatical errors, including issues with subject-verb agreement, incorrect prepositions, and faulty sentence construction. For example, 'there was started at' is grammatically incorrect, and the age range '18-16' is nonsensical. Punctuation is also problematic, with inconsistent spacing and unnecessary commas. While simple sentence structures are attempted, the lack of control over complex structures and the prevalence of basic errors mean that the reader's understanding is occasionally strained.
