The charts below give information about a public library in a town called Little Chalfont.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

 

Student answer (Band 6.5)

The charts illustrate information about the ages of members and total loans by category in 2016. The total number of loans in the years 2007 to 2016 for a library in a town called Little Chalfont.

Overall, adults aged 18 to 64 are the majority of the members and both children's adult fiction were borrowed the most in the year 2016. While the total number of loans has increased throughout the years, despite having some fluctuation.

Regarding the age of the members, adults aged 18 to 64 were the highest in number with 51%. In second place there were children with 22% followed by young adults aged 13 to 17 and adults aged 65 or above with 15% and 12% respectively.

Coming towards loans, both children's and adult fiction were equally the most borrowed at 38%. Following them it was adult non-fiction at 13%. Meanwhile, adult audio books and young adults accounted equally with 2% and children's non-fiction and children's DVDs were at 6% and 1% respectively.

Finally, the total number of loans has increased over the years, as it started at almost 15,500 in 2007 and ended up at almost 22,000 in 2016 despite having some fluctuation overall.

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task. Phrases like 'accounted equally' and 'fluctuation overall' are used correctly. However, there is some repetition of basic verbs like 'were' and 'accounted'. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more precise academic vocabulary related to data description, such as 'constituted', 'represented', or 'peaked'. There are no significant spelling errors, and the vocabulary used is sufficient to convey the intended meaning clearly throughout the report.

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures.
