Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the charts, but the analysis is somewhat superficial. While you identify the age groups and the trend in loans, the comparison between categories is weak. For instance, you mention 'children's friction figures' (likely meaning fiction) but do not clearly explain the relationship between the different loan types. The overview is present but lacks clarity, particularly the phrase 'mismatch pattern,' which is vague. To improve, ensure you clearly group data and provide more precise comparisons between the different categories shown in the charts rather than just listing figures.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate. Phrases like 'To begin with' are used repetitively and sometimes inappropriately, such as when starting the second paragraph of the body. Referencing is occasionally unclear, and the transition between the pie chart data and the line graph data is abrupt. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear, singular focus would significantly enhance the flow of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision required for higher bands. There are several instances of awkward word choices, such as 'mismatch pattern' and 'friction figures' (likely a typo for 'fiction'). You rely on basic descriptors like 'at peak' or 'at 51' without using more sophisticated reporting verbs or nouns (e.g., 'constitute,' 'account for,' 'fluctuate'). To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise terminology related to data description and ensure that your word choices are contextually appropriate.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Issues include missing articles ('used library'), incorrect verb forms ('adult contribute'), and awkward phrasing ('figures are climbing and get ended'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with unnecessary spaces before commas. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. Focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles to improve your accuracy.
