Student answer (Band 5.5)
The Pie chart illustrates the age of members of library in 2016, while table compares the total loan by category in same year. Moreover, Bar charts present total number of loans between 2007 and 2016.
Overall, it can be seen that Adults (18064) accounted for the highest proportion in a library, almost half of total percentage, whereas, adults 65 and over had a least percentage. Moreover, children's fiction and adult fiction had the same loan percentage, while making it highest. All others categories were below 10 percentage, except adult non-fiction.
If we talk about age of library participants, adults (18-64) were 51%, as compare to children with 22%. By contrast proportion of young adults (13-17) and adults 65 and over were from 12 and 15 respectively. However, total numbers of loans between 2007 to 2016 remained between 15,000 to slightly above 20,000, with least number of loans in 2007, which was approximately 16,000, and highest number of loans in 2016, that is around 22,000.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
You have successfully identified the main features of the charts and provided relevant comparisons. You covered the age demographics, the loan categories, and the trend over time. However, the report lacks precision in some areas; for example, you mention 'adults (18064)' which seems to be a misinterpretation of the data labels, as the chart shows percentages for age groups. Additionally, the description of the bar chart trend could be more analytical by highlighting the specific fluctuations rather than just the start and end points. To reach a higher band, ensure that data points are accurately transcribed and that the overview clearly synthesizes the most significant trends across all three charts.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The response is organized into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs focusing on specific data sets. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'By contrast', and 'In addition' to link ideas. However, the flow is occasionally mechanical, and some transitions feel repetitive. The referencing is sometimes unclear, particularly when jumping between the different charts. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of cohesive devices and ensure that the progression of ideas within paragraphs is smoother, avoiding abrupt shifts between the different data sources.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'proportion', 'categories', and 'fluctuations' (implied). However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'had a least percentage' instead of 'the lowest percentage' and 'were comprised 38%' instead of 'comprised 38%'. There is also some repetition of basic verbs. To achieve a higher score, try to incorporate more precise academic vocabulary and ensure that your word forms are grammatically correct in context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include 'as compare to' (should be 'compared to'), 'all others categories' (should be 'all other categories'), and 'children’s DVD's was at lowest' (should be 'children's DVDs were the lowest'). While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the main points, they are frequent enough to impact the overall fluency. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and correct preposition usage will help improve your accuracy.
