Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers all three charts provided in the prompt. You successfully identified the main features, such as the dominant age group (18-64) and the overall upward trend in total loans. However, the analysis is somewhat uneven. The section on library members contains a slight inconsistency: you state that children (13-17) are 15% and children are 22%, which is confusing. Furthermore, the final sentence 'show in chart' is an incomplete fragment that detracts from the professional tone. To improve, ensure that all data points are clearly linked to the specific categories and avoid fragmented sentences. The overview is clear, but more precise comparisons between the categories would strengthen the response.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized into three paragraphs: an introduction/overview, a breakdown of members and loan types, and a summary of the total loan trend. The use of cohesive devices such as 'In addition', 'Regarding', and 'Although' helps the flow of information. However, the transition between the member statistics and the loan types is a bit abrupt. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally unclear, particularly in the second paragraph where the percentages for children are presented in a way that lacks cohesion. Improving the logical flow between sentences within paragraphs would help elevate this score.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey the information, using terms like 'proportion', 'accounted for', and 'upward trend'. However, there are some inaccuracies and informal phrasing. For example, 'up the largest proportion' is grammatically incorrect (should be 'make up'), and 'little confalt' contains spelling errors. The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the precision and variety required for a higher band. To improve, focus on using more sophisticated collocations and ensuring that technical terms are used accurately throughout the report.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'adults age 18-64 up the largest proportion' (missing 'make') and 'children represents up the smallest group' (subject-verb agreement error). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after commas and periods. While these errors do not significantly impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and proofreading for minor mechanical errors will help improve your accuracy.
