Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
You have successfully identified the main features of the charts, including the age distribution of members, the breakdown of loan categories, and the trend in total loans over time. You made relevant comparisons, such as noting that children's and adult fiction loans were equal. However, the report lacks precision in some areas; for example, the description of the loan trend is slightly confusing, and the data points for the years 2009-2013 are not clearly explained. To improve, ensure that all data points are accurately transcribed and that the overview clearly synthesizes the most significant trends rather than just listing details.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The response is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the information. You use some cohesive devices like 'To begin with', 'Furthermore', and 'In addition' to link ideas. However, the flow is occasionally hindered by awkward phrasing and mechanical transitions. Some sentences are disjointed, and the referencing is sometimes unclear, such as the phrase 'in graph of pts around 15,000'. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear, unified focus would enhance the overall coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to convey the basic information. You use some topic-specific terms like 'members', 'loans', and 'category'. However, there are several instances of imprecise word choice and repetition, such as using 'biggest' instead of 'highest' or 'largest'. Additionally, there are minor errors in word formation and collocation, such as 'lons' (likely a typo for loans) and 'purchased to' which does not fit the context of the data. Expanding your range of descriptive verbs and adjectives would help you achieve a higher score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'The charts illustrates'), incorrect verb tenses, and missing articles. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with some run-on sentences and missing commas. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to distract the reader. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring subject-verb agreement, and proofreading for common errors like missing articles and incorrect verb forms.
