IELTS Writing Task 1 question
The charts below give information about a public library in a town called Little Chalfont.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Student answer (Band 6.5)
The pie chart displays proportion of the members of different ages attending the public library of Litle Chalfont town in 2016 while the table illustrates figures about total books borrowed across seven different categories in the same year. The bar graph shows the total number of loans taken from the librry from 2007 to 2016.
Overall, most of the members attending the library were adults while almost a quarter of the membership belonged to children. The most loaned books belonged to the children and adult fictions wihile least were borrowed from children's DVD section. The number of loans from the library showed an upward trend with some fluctuations in the middle years of the given period.
About the members attending the public library, adults made the most attendees with 51% followed by young children with 22% of the total members. Young adults between age 13 to 17 and adults aged 65 and above contributed almost equally with 12% and 15% respectively.
Turning to the loans from different categories, children's and adult's fictions were the most in demand wuth 38% each followed by adult non-fiction books with 13% of the total loans. Children's DVD and non fiction books along with adult's audio books were borrowed, with 1%, 6% and 2% respectively.
The total loans taken from library generally increased from around 16000 in 2007 to approximately 22000 in 2016. The figures saw some fluctuations around the 2010 to 2014.
