The charts below give information about a public library in a town called Little Chalfont.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

 

Student answer (Band 7.0)

The charts illustrate information about the public library in Little Chalfont. They show the age of library members, the types of materials borrowed in 2016, and the total number of loans from 2007 to 2016.

Overall, adults aged 18–64 formed the largest proportion of members, while fiction books were the most popular items borrowed. In addition, the total number of loans generally increased during the period shown.

Looking first at library membership, adults aged 18–64 accounted for 51% of all members. Children made up 22%, while young adults aged 13–17 represented 15%. People aged 65 and over were the smallest group, at 12%.

Regarding borrowed materials, children's fiction and adult fiction were equally popular, each accounting for 38% of total loans. Adult non-fiction was the third most borrowed category at 13%. Children's non-fiction represented 6%, whereas young adult books and adult audio books each made up 2%. Children's DVDs were the least popular item, at only 1%.

The bar chart shows that the number of loans rose from around 16,000 in 2007 to just over 21,000 in 2011. Although there was a slight decline between 2012 and 2013, borrowing figures recovered afterwards. By 2016, total loans had reached approximately 21,500, the highest level during the period.
