IELTS Writing Task 1 question
The charts below give information about a public library in a town called Little Chalfont.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
The pie chart and table provide information about the age of the library members and percentage of different genre of books borrowed from Little Chalfont Library in the year 2016. While, the bar chart illustrate the total number of books borrowed from the library between 2007 and 2016.
Overall, over the the period of 9 years, there was a gradual increase in the total number of loans from the library. The maximum being in the year 2016. In the year 2016, children's and adult fiction books were the most popular item being borrowed by the library members who were mostly aged 18-64 years.
In the year 2016, almost 50% of the members were adults in the range of 18-64 years. While the least number of members were aged 65 years and above. The remainder members were children and young adults aged 13-17. The popular genre of books borrowed in the same year were children's and adults fiction book which was 38%. The second most favourite borrowed item adult non fiction book which contributed 13%. Young adults, Adult audio books and Children DVDs were less popular among the members, being at 2% and 1% respectively.
Over the years, there was a gradual increase in the total number of loans
from just over 15000 in the year 2007 to just above 20000 in 2016. Though, there was a decline in the year 2009 and 2013 to just below 20000. Following which the number of loans increased in successive years.
