Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.5

The response attempts to cover multiple parts of the prompt, including membership demographics, loan categories in 2016, and overall borrowing trends over time. However, the data interpretation is frequently confused and inaccurate. For instance, the writer states that adults aged 18 to 64 equal 51% (which is correct), but then jumbles percentages for fiction and non-fiction categories, misinterpreting the demographic figures as loan categories. The overview paragraph contains unclear and garbled statements rather than a coherent summary of the main trends. While the line graph's overall upward trajectory is mentioned, the specific figures are misread (e.g., stating loans increased from 5,000 to 20,000, whereas the chart starts at around 15,700). Overall, the task is only partially addressed due to numerous inaccuracies and a lack of clear data selection.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0

The essay lacks clear logical organisation and progression. The paragraphs are poorly structured, and the transition between different charts feels abrupt and confusing. Cohesive devices are used awkwardly or incorrectly, such as repeatedly using 'On the other hand' inappropriately to introduce new points rather than contrasting ideas. Referencing within sentences is frequently unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow which percentage or category is being discussed. Paragraphing is attempted, but internal cohesion fails because sentences are disjointed and lack grammatical or semantic links. Consequently, the overall arrangement feels mechanical and difficult to follow.

Lexical Resource — Band 4.5

The vocabulary used is very limited and basic, with frequent lexical errors that impede communication. The writer struggles with basic terminology related to data description, using words like 'catagories', 'informantion', and 'dramaticaly' with spelling mistakes. Collocations are unnatural, such as 'total numbers of loan in age of little chalfont Library members' and 'marginally decrease 19000'. Words are often used in the wrong word class or context, such as 'Children's are fiction or non fiction'. The range of vocabulary is inadequate for discussing statistical data effectively, leading to frequent repetition and confusion.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0

The response demonstrates a very limited range of grammatical structures. Most sentences are simple or attempt complex structures that are heavily flawed and ungrammatical, such as 'Overall, in library members are adults in different catagories but under the specfic age limit are significantaly increase.' There are persistent errors in subject-verb agreement, tense usage (mixing past trends with present descriptions inconsistently), and prepositions. Punctuation is also weak, with missing commas and run-on phrasing. Errors occur frequently throughout the text and regularly impede comprehension, placing the response firmly in the lower bands for accuracy.
