IELTS Writing Task 1 question

The charts below give information about a public library in a town called Little Chalfont.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

 

Student answer (Band 6.0)

The bar chart and table display the data on total number of books borrowed. The pie chart illustrates information on age of library members in a particular town.

Overall, in 2016, majority of library members were adults. Children's fiction and adult fiction was loaned the most. The total number of loans fluctuated and increased over the years.

In 2016, 51% of the members of the library were adults (18-64) followed by, children contributing to 22%. Only 12% adults over the age of 65 were members. This percentage is slightly higher in young adults (13-17) with 15%. In terms of loaning from library the least popular was children's DVDs with only 1% followed by, young adults and adult audio books with 2%. The popular choice was children's fiction and adult fiction with 38%.

The total number of loans started-off with around 16,000 books in 2007 which then increased to almost 18,000 in 2008, it remain unchanged in 2009. It then increased in 2011 and slowly leveled-off in 2013. It then raised to approximately around 21,000 by the end of 2016.
