IELTS Writing Task 1 question

The charts below give information about a public library in a town called Little Chalfont.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

 

Student answer (Band 6.0)

The pie chart shows the proportions of age of library users in the town of Little Chalfont in 2016. The table and line graph demonstrate total loans by different categories of the books in 2016 and total number of loans from 2007 to 2016 respectively at Little Chalfont Library.

Overall, library users included people of four different age grous from children to adults of 65 and above age. Adults between ages of 18-64 were top visitors of the library. In 2016 loans were taken for for seven categories of books. Loans taken for children's fiction and adult fiction were the highest. Whereas, te least loan was required for the children's DVDs. Total number of loans taken fluctuated over the years. In 2007 lowest amount of loan was recorded whereas the loan reached its peak in 2016.

The library was visited by 51% of adults between ages of 18-64. Children accounted for 22% of the library users. 15% of young adults of age 13-17 and the lowest percentage of visitors were of adults between 65 and over of only 12%. In 2016 number of loans reached highest at a little over 20,000. These loans were contributed among different categories of books. Highest investment was for children's fiction and adult fiction of 38%. Young adults and dult audio books had same share for loan of 2%. Adult non-fiction category required a loan of 13% however, children's non-fiction category required lesser loan of 6%. The least share of loan was for children's DVDs of only 1%.

In 2007 number of loans was the lowest at around 15,000. Then it followed a fluctuating trend in future years with rising and then declining from 2008 to 200. The number remained somewhat stable a little above 20,000 from 2010 to 2012. Then it declined again in 2013 and finally kept increasing to the highest number in 2016 at more than 20,000.
