IELTS Writing Task 1 question
The charts below give information about a public library in a town called Little Chalfont.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Student answer (Band 6.5)
The piechart illustrates the age of library members in 2016, while the bar chart illustrates the total number of loans taken from 2007 to 2016. Also, the table illustrates the total loans by category in 2016.
Overall, adults who were aged between 18 and 64 accounted for the most numbers of members in 2016, while the most number of loans was taken in 2016. Similarly, Children's fiction and Adult fiction accounted for the category with highest total loans.
In 2016, adults aged between 18 to 64 accounted for the most number of library members at 51%, followed by children at just 22%. In contrast, Young adults who aged from 13 to 17 and adults who were aged 65 and over former the least number of members at 15% and 12% respectively.
As for the total number of loans from 2007 to 2016, the lowest figure was seen for the year 2007 reaching just around 16000. The figures then grew steadily throughout the period. The highest data however was seen for the year 2016 at around 22000, followed by the figures of year 2015 and 2011, both being at around 21000.
Regarding the subject of total loans by category in the year 2016, the highest proportion was seen for the category of Children's fiction and Adult fiction, both being at 38%. Furthermore, adult non-fiction accounted for the second largest share at 13%. In contrast, adult audio books, yound adults and children's DVD accounted for the lowest share at 2% and 1% respectively.
