IELTS Writing Task 1 question

The charts below give information about a public library in a town called Little Chalfont.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

 

Student answer (Band 5.5)

There is a pie chart which shows the age of library members of 2016. On the other side for more information there is a table that gives us the data about the loans by category. Whereas there is also a graph chart that shows the total number of loans which took from the Little Chalfont Library science 2007 to 2016.

The summary of the given information by selecting and reporting the main features and also the comparison between them are as follows.

First of all we discuss the pie chart as there is almost 51 percent of the Library members are adults.Whereas, 22% are children. On the other hand there are 15% are the young adults and onlyu 12 percent are those people whose age is over than 65.

Secondaly, the total numbers of loans are continously increases since 2007 to 2016 from a little bit high from the 15000 and till reaching in 2016 it is almost in the mid of 20,000 to 25,000.

At last, the total loans by category (2016) are children's fiction, adult fiction and Young adults, Adult audio books are same respectively their percentage is 38 percent and 2 percent.Children non-fiction percentage is 6% and Children's DVDs percentage is only 1%.

While the writer attempts some topic-specific vocabulary related to charts and statistics (e.g., 'percentage', 'category', 'members'), the range is limited. Word choice is sometimes unnatural, such as 'loans which took from'. This meets the criteria for Band 5.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but attempts at complex sentences are frequently faulty.
