Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response falls significantly short of the minimum 150-word requirement, containing only 78 words. Due to this severe under-length, the response addresses the task only partially. While the student attempts to provide an overview and touches upon some data points from the charts (such as adult membership percentages and loan categories), the information is extremely limited and under-developed. Important features like the ten-year trend in total loans are entirely omitted, resulting in a low score for this criterion.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The text is split into two very short paragraphs, which is insufficient given the brevity of the response. Although there is a basic attempt to structure the writing with an introductory overview ('Overall, even though...') and a body sentence, the lack of development means logical progression is difficult to judge. Cohesive devices are minimal and basic, such as 'even though', and referencing is occasionally weak.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is generally basic and repetitive (e.g., 'numbers', 'members', 'loans'). There are noticeable spelling and formatting errors, such as 'little chalfont' lacking capitalisation and 'prefered' being misspelled. While the vocabulary is minimally adequate to convey simple ideas, it lacks the range, precision, and less common lexical items required for higher band scores in an Academic Task 1 response.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response displays a very limited range of sentence structures, relying on simple or poorly connected compound-complex forms. There are punctuation and capitalisation errors (e.g., lowercase proper nouns and a missing comma/spacing issue after commas). While some basic sentences are grammatically acceptable, the frequent structural limitations and mechanical errors impact the overall quality of the writing.
