Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers the main features of the three charts provided, including the age distribution of members, loan categories, and the overall trend of total loans from 2007 to 2016. However, there are some inaccuracies in reporting the data. For instance, the writer states that adult membership is 51% (which is correct), but then confuses percentages and numbers in other sections, such as claiming that 'in 2016 total 22,000 people taken loan' (the actual figure is around 21,700). Furthermore, the explanation of the loan categories is somewhat confused grammatically and mathematically. While an overview is provided through repetitive concluding sentences, the development of some details lacks clarity. This places the response in the Band 5.5 to 6.0 range; it addresses all parts of the task, but some information is unclear or inaccurate.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay attempts a logical structure with an introduction, body details, and a repeated introductory summary as a conclusion. However, the paragraphing is weak and confusing, with the final paragraph essentially repeating the introduction instead of summarising key findings. Cohesive devices are used mechanically and sometimes inaccurately, such as 'While bar diagram present' and 'On the other hand'. Referencing is also occasionally unclear, as seen in sentences like 'adult membership is more than the half of it's total as recorded 51%'. The overall progression is hindered by choppy sentences and structural disorganization, matching the descriptors for Band 5.0.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting words such as 'proportions', 'distribution', and 'categories'. However, there are numerous inappropriate word choices and non-standard collocations, such as 'barrow 38% on the account of fiction', 'pupil debited for DVDs', and 'adult also purchase audio books on loan'. Spelling and word-form errors are frequent throughout the text, including 'inforamation', 'categgories', 'reamin', and 'streadily'. These lexical inaccuracies and limitations place the response firmly in Band 5.0, where noticeable errors cause some difficulty for the reader.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response exhibits a very limited range of grammatical structures. Most complex sentence attempts are faulty or grammatically incomplete, such as 'The three different charts consist inforamation of library in particular town.which is known as a Little Chalfont.' There are persistent, frequent errors in basic grammar, subject-verb agreement, and punctuation, including missing articles and incorrect prepositions (e.g., 'total loan taken from 2007 to 2016, reamin steadily upward'). Because attempts at complex sentences frequently result in grammatical errors that cause difficulty for the reader, this performance aligns with Band 5.0.
