IELTS Writing Task 1 question
The charts below give information about a public library in a town called Little Chalfont.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Student answer (Band 6.5)
The given charts provide data on the age group of the library members and the category loaned from the library in the year 2016. Additionally, a bar chart compares the total number of loans from the library from the year 2007 to 2016.
Overall, there was a rise in the total number of books loaned despite some minor fluctuations. Children’s fiction and adult fiction were the equally most loaned books. Moreover, adults till the age of 64 made the largest proportion of library users in 2016.
Adults till age of 65 contributed to the largest number of library users at 51%. The second most dominant sector was children at 22%. Young adults and adults over the age of 65 contributed 15% and 12% respectively, making adults over the age of 65 the least dominant sector.
Among the most borrowed books were adult fiction and children’s fiction both accounted for 38%. Next came adult non-fiction at 13% followed by children’s non-fiction which accounted for only 6%. Young Adults and adult audio books both accounted for 2%. Finally, children’s DVDs were least borrowed category, making up just 1%.
Total number of loaned books in 2007 was approximately 16000 which increased to around 22000 in 2016 after experiencing some fluctuations throughout these years.
