The charts below give information about a public library in a town called Little Chalfont.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Student answer (Band 7.5)
The charts provide information about little chalfont library , including the age of its members , the categories of books and other materials borrowed in 2016 , and the total number of loans between 2007 and 2016 .
Overall, adults aged 18–64 made up the largest proportion of library members in 2016. Fiction was the most popular type of material borrowed, while the total number of loans generally increased over the period despite some fluctuations.
In 2016, 51% of library members were adults aged 18–64. Children accounted for 22%, followed by young adults aged 13–17 at 15%. The smallest group was adults aged 65 and over, at 12%.
Regarding loans by category, children’s fiction and adult fiction were equally popular, each accounting for 38% of all loans. Adult non-fiction represented 13%, while children’s non-fiction made up 6%. Young adults’ materials and adult audio books each accounted for 2%, and children’s DVDs were the least borrowed category, at just 1%.
The number of loans rose from approximately 16,000 in 2007 to around 19,000 in 2008 and remained similar in 2009. It then increased to about 21,000 in 2011, before falling slightly in 2012 and 2013. After that, the figure recovered and reached approximately 21,500 in 2016, the highest level recorded during the period.
