The charts below give information about a public library in a town called Little Chalfont.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Student answer (Band 7.5)
The charts provide information about Little Chalfont Library, including the age distribution of its members, the proportion of loans made by different categories of materials in 2016, and the total number of loans between 2007 and 2016.
Overall, adults aged 18–64 constituted the largest proportion of library members, while young adults represented the smallest group. In terms of loans, children's fiction and adult fiction were equally the most popular categories. The total number of loans generally increased over the ten-year period, despite some fluctuations.
Looking first at the age distribution, adults aged 18–64 accounted for just over half of all library members, at 51%. Children were the second-largest group, representing 22%, while young adults aged 13–17 made up 15%. The remaining 12% were adults aged 65 and over.
The table shows that children's fiction and adult fiction were the two most frequently borrowed categories, each accounting for 38% of total loans. Adult non-fiction was considerably less popular, at 13%, while children's non-fiction represented 6%. However, the number of loans subsequently recovered, reaching approximately 20,700 in 2014, 21,200 in 2015, and a high of roughly 21,500 in 2016. Thus, despite some variation, the overall number of loans increased by around 6,000 between 2007 and 2016.
