Student answer (Band 5.0)

The chart illustrates the information of a public library in a town called little chalfont.

According to the chart of the age of library members its very obvious that the age range of adults between 18-64 leads the chart as this is the age the individual is very keen to adapt good knowledge and read books. The children age group comes right after the adult of 18-64 as the children visit library to read fiction or non fiction story books. There is not a huge difference between the children or young adult in age group also and in the interest in library because they have similar type of interests .At the last adults of age 65 and older they are very least interested in library

Number of loans as shown in the graph is very unpredictable like it starts with 2007 the number of loans was the least in this year and then till 2016 it is like a roller coaster some times increase and some times decrease but not a gradual or large difference but vy the time it reached 2016 it becomes a huge difference from [redacted phone] as it becomes common between people.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response attempts to cover the three provided charts regarding the public library in Little Chalfont, but it misses several key features and misinterprets data. While it correctly notes that adults aged 18-64 form the largest age group, it introduces irrelevant personal opinions (e.g., 'as this is the age the individual is very keen to adapt good knowledge'). Furthermore, the description of the loan trends over time is inaccurate; the text claims the graph is 'unpredictable like a roller coaster' and 'starts with 2007 the number of loans was the least', whereas the chart shows a steady overall upward trend from 15,700 in 2007 to 21,700 in 2016. There is also no mention of specific loan categories such as adult and children's fiction sharing the top spot at 38%. Consequently, the task is only partially addressed.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The essay lacks proper paragraphing, being presented as two large blocks of text rather than an introduction, overview, and detailed body paragraphs. Ideas are loosely strung together with basic conjunctions and repetitive transitional phrases such as 'According to the chart' and 'At the last'. There is no clear overall progression or logical structure guiding the reader through the data. Cohesive devices are generally inadequate and repetitive, and referencing is sometimes unclear, such as 'they have similar type of interests' without a distinct antecedent. Overall arrangement is faulty.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is basic, repetitive, and informal for an Academic Task 1 response (e.g., 'very obvious', 'hugedifference', 'roller coaster', 'very least interested'). There are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors, such as starting sentences with lowercase letters ('little chalfont', 'The children age group'), combining words incorrectly ('non fiction'), and awkward phrasing like 'adapt good knowledge'. The range of vocabulary is limited and minimally adequate for communicating basic ideas, but these errors cause some difficulty and prevent the response from achieving a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The grammatical range is quite limited. The writer relies heavily on simple sentences and run-on sentences joined improperly by conjunctions without adequate punctuation (e.g., 'According to the chart of the age of library members its very obvious that the age range...'). There is an absence of a variety of complex structures. Punctuation is frequently neglected, notably missing apostrophes ('its', 'childrens') and capitalisation at the beginning of sentences and proper nouns ('little chalfont'). Frequent grammatical errors and missing punctuation impede readability.
