IELTS Writing Task 1 question
The charts below give information about a public library in a town called Little Chalfont.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Student answer (Band 6.5)
The two charts illustrates the age distribution of members of Little Chalfont public library in 2016 and the proportion of different types of items on laon in the same year.
Overall, working-age adults made up more than half of the library's membership, while fiction was by far the most popular category for borrowing with children's fiction and adult fiction accounting for more than three-quaters of the loans.
In terms of membership, adults aged 18 to 64 were the dominant group, comprising 51% of all members. Children were the second largest group at 22% followed bt young adults aged 13-17 at 15%. Adults aged represented the smallest share, with just 12% of the membership.
Regarding laonns, fiction was the most borrowed material for both children and adults. Children's fiction amd adult fiction each accounted for 38% of total loan, together making up 76%. Adult non-fiction was the next most popular at 13%, while children non- fiction was 6%. The remaining categories had very small shares: young adults' laons and adult audio books each represented only 2% of loans, and children's DVDs were the least borrowed item at just 1%.
A notable comparison is that although children made up only 22% of members, they borrowed the largest share of fiction , while young adults, who were 15% of members, borrowed only 2%of all items.
