IELTS Writing Task 1 question
The charts below give information about a public library in a town called Little Chalfont.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Student answer (Band 7.0)
The charts illustrate information about the Little Chalfont public library , including the age of its members in 2016 , the categories of materials borrowed in the same year , and the total number of loans between 2007 and 2016.
In terms of membership , adults aged 18 - 64 formed the largest group , accounting for 51% of all members. Children represented 22% , while young adults aged 13 - 17 made up 15%. The smallest proportion was recorded among people aged 65 and over at 12%.
Regarding the types of materials borrowed in 2016 , children's fiction and adult fiction were equally popular , each accounting for 38% of total loans . Adult non-fiction was the next most borrowed category , at 13% , followed by children's non-fiction at 6%. Young-adult books and adult audio books each reprsented 2% whereas children's DVD were the least popular , at only 1%.
The total number of loans generally increased over the period. In 2007 , there were approximately 15,500 loans , rising to about 18,800 in 2008 and 19,000 in 2009. The figure then climbed to around 20,500 in 2010 and peaked at approximately 20,800 in 2011. After falling slightly to about 20,500 in 2012 and 19,200 in 2013 , the number recovered , reaching roughly 20,300 in 2014 , 20,700 in 2015 and 21,000 in 2016.
In conclusion , adult aged 18-64 constituted the majority of library members , while fiction was the most frequently borrowed category. Although the number of loans flctuated durin the decade, it finished at its highest level in 2016.
