Student answer (Band 5.0)

The given charts illustrate the proportions of public library which is a part of the little Chalfont area.

Overall, we have three charts in which the pie chart inform about the different age groups that are regular to library in the year 2016, the second one is table which reports about percentage of loans according to genras' in year 2016. Lastly the bar graph mainly features about total sum of lones taken by people between 2007 to 2016.

In the year 2016 we can observe adluts between 18 to 64 ages were most visiting age group with total of 51%, followed by children at 22%, lastly the least is adluts over 65 age which accounted at 12%. In the same year the most popular books which were taken are adult and child fiction with 38%, the secong most popular isadult non-fiction at 13%, the least popular books were children's DVDs at only 1%.

The total lones taken between 2007 to 2016 where the graph showed almost similar ratios with small fluctuations in the middle starting with 2007 where it acconted at slightely above 15,000 members and then the graph showed increase in number every year except in the years 2012 and 2013 where it dropped around 21,000 and the following also showed the decreasing ratioa at below 20,000, but the next coming years the market again rose steadily ending with more than 20,000 in year 2016.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The student attempts to address all parts of the task by summarizing the three charts about Little Chalfont Library. However, the overview paragraph is flawed because it describes the charts mechanically ('we have three charts in which the pie chart inform...') rather than synthesizing the main trends and overall information as required for a higher band. While key data points are mentioned—such as adults aged 18-64 making up 51% and fiction books leading loans at 38%—there are inaccuracies in interpreting the bar chart for the total number of loans, where the student misreads the figures ('acconted at slightely above 15,000 members') and misinterprets the downward and upward trends in 2012-2013. Consequently, the response satisfies the basic requirements of Task Achievement but falls short of higher bands due to flaws in data reporting and the lack of a proper, cohesive overview.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The essay is divided into an introduction, an overview, and separate body paragraphs for the charts, demonstrating a basic attempt at paragraphing. However, progression is somewhat mechanical and cohesion is faulty in places. The second paragraph functions as an overview but mixes structural description ('the pie chart inform about...') with data commentary. Cohesive devices are either repetitive or inaccurate, and referencing is sometimes confusing, such as in the final paragraph where sentences run on without clear punctuation or logical connectors ('where the graph showed almost similar ratios... but the next coming years...'). Paragraph transitions could be much smoother to guide the reader through the comparisons.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The student demonstrates an adequate vocabulary range to communicate basic information, utilizing topic-related words such as 'proportions', 'age groups', 'loans', and 'fiction'. However, there are numerous spelling and word-choice errors throughout the text, including 'genras'' instead of 'genres', 'lones' instead of 'loans', 'adluts' instead of 'adults', and 'acconted' instead of 'accounted'. Less common lexical items are attempted but often misused, and referencing non-standard terms like 'decreasing ratioa' limits the lexical score. The vocabulary is minimally adequate for the task but frequent errors in word formation and spelling constrain the overall score to a Band 5.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but control over grammar and punctuation is weak. There are frequent grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('the pie chart inform', 'adluts between 18 to 64 ages were most visiting age group') and prepositional misuse. Run-on sentences are particularly problematic in the final paragraph, where multiple clauses are strung together without proper punctuation or conjunctions ('...dropped around 21,000 and the following also showed the decreasing ratioa at below 20,000, but the next coming years...'). These frequent errors and structural inaccuracies cause some difficulty for the reader and prevent the response from achieving a higher band.
