Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The candidate successfully addresses all parts of the prompt by summarizing the main features of the three visual sources. The overview highlights that adults were the primary library users and that fiction books dominated loans, alongside an accurate observation of the overall upward trend in total loans from 2007 to 2016. However, there are minor inaccuracies in data reporting; for instance, the bar graph displays total loans over a decade rather than just 2016 as stated, and the age groups are slightly conflated in the description. Nevertheless, key comparisons are made and the response fulfills the core requirements of Academic Task 1.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response is logically organized with a clear overall progression. It begins with an introductory paragraph identifying the charts, follows with an overview paragraph summarizing key findings, and uses subsequent paragraphs to detail specific data points from the pie chart, table, and bar graph. Cohesive devices such as 'Overall', 'While', and 'On the other hand' are employed to connect ideas, although referencing is occasionally slightly mechanical or imprecise, such as the transition into the bar graph details.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The candidate demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary suitable for the task, successfully incorporating terms such as 'fluctuated', 'genres', 'ratio', and 'proportion'. There are a few spelling and lexical errors, including 'Liitle Chalfont', 'detials', 'cildren's', and the unusual phrase 'loans investment' instead of 'loan distribution' or 'borrowed categories'. Despite these inaccuracies, meaning is generally clear and vocabulary is sufficient to communicate the main features of the visual data.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as subordinate clauses introduced by 'while' and 'as'. Grammatical control is reasonably good, though several minor errors are present, including missing articles ('in pie chart', 'used library'), incorrect prepositions ('with the respective ratio of'), and spelling/typographical slips. These errors do not impede overall communication, but they restrict the response to a Band 6 level for this criterion.
