Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response covers all three visual components presented in the prompt: the pie chart showing age groups, the data table for loan categories, and the bar chart illustrating overall loans over a decade. The writer successfully highlights key features, such as noting that adults aged 18 to 64 and fiction books (both children's and adult) formed the largest segments. However, the overview is missing, and some data points contain minor inaccuracies, such as misinterpreting the units on the bar chart. To reach a higher band, the student should provide a clear introductory overview summarizing the main trends across the charts and ensure greater precision when reporting data.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The text is organized with basic sequencing markers such as "At first", "Secondly", and "At third", attempting to introduce each distinct chart. However, paragraphing is weak, and the overall progression feels somewhat mechanical rather than naturally flowing. Cohesive devices are repetitive and sometimes awkward, as seen in phrases like "At third" instead of standard transitions like "Finally" or "Turning to the bar chart". Additionally, referencing is occasionally unclear. To improve, the writer should use more sophisticated and varied cohesive links and structure the response into logical paragraphs without relying on heavy-handed ordinal numbering.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is generally adequate for conveying simple information about the charts, utilizing terms such as "members", "fiction", "loans", and "category". However, the range is quite limited and repetitive, with frequent reliance on basic verbs like "illustrate" and "have". There are also noticeable spelling and typographical errors, such as "Childern's" and "on-fiction", along with unnatural phrasing like "the loan is same". Less common vocabulary is barely attempted. To achieve a higher score, the student needs to incorporate a wider variety of precise, topic-specific vocabulary and collocation while eliminating basic spelling mistakes.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writing demonstrates a mix of simple and attempted complex sentences, but grammatical control is inconsistent. There are numerous basic agreement and tense errors, such as "These three chart shows" instead of "charts show", "22% members of library are" instead of "22% of library members are", and "the loan is same" instead of "the number of loans remained the same". Punctuation is also faulty in places, including stray semicolons and commas. While the meaning remains mostly clear despite these errors, the high frequency of basic mistakes prevents the score from rising into the higher bands.
