Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The candidate successfully covers all parts of the visual data, including the pie chart, line graph, and table. An appropriate overview is provided, highlighting key trends such as the popularity of the 18–64 age group and the upward trajectory of library loans from 2007 to 2016. Main features are adequately selected and reported, with relevant comparisons made between categories, such as children's fiction and adult fiction sharing the highest proportion of loans. Data points are accurately referenced from the input, supporting the overall summary effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The text demonstrates a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. Information is divided sensibly into an introductory paragraph, an overview paragraph, and distinct body paragraphs addressing each chart type. Cohesive devices are employed adequately, such as 'Overall,' 'whereas,' and 'followed by,' though some transitions feel slightly formulaic. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, contributing to the overall readability and coherent arrangement of ideas.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The candidate uses a sufficient range of vocabulary with some flexibility and precision, incorporating terms like 'proportion,' 'increasing trend,' 'significant,' and 'contributor.' There are a few minor lexical inaccuracies and typos, such as 'members comprises' instead of 'members comprise,' 'chilren's' instead of 'children's,' and 'yound adults' instead of 'young adults.' Despite these occasional errors, the vocabulary is adequate to convey the intended meaning effectively.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating control over structures such as relative clauses and comparative constructions. However, some grammatical errors are present, including subject-verb agreement issues (e.g., 'Adults of the age 65 years and over makes' and 'Children's fiction and adult fiction holds'). Punctuation is generally sound, and while errors occur, they rarely impede communication.
