Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The student attempts to address all parts of the task by reporting information from the three visual components regarding the Little Chalfont Library in 2016 and across the 2007-2016 period. However, there are notable inaccuracies and omissions. For instance, the writer misinterprets the data for adult members, stating 'Adults between 18-64 made up approximately half of the total which is 51' (whereas the percentage/number reflects 51 out of 100 or total members). Additionally, the overview is weak, lacking a cohesive summary of the main trends across the charts. The reporting of percentages and categories is somewhat haphazard, missing key comparative insights. These issues place this response at Band 5.0.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response is divided into four paragraphs, reflecting an attempt to structure the answer logically by addressing each chart in turn. However, the progression between and within paragraphs is clumsy. Cohesive devices are minimal or inaccurate, such as using 'The other remains category' and 'Later 2013' instead of more standard transition phrases. Referencing is occasionally unclear, and the mechanical transitions impede smooth reading. Overall paragraphing is present, but the logical flow suffers from repetitive sentence structures and awkward transitions. This corresponds to a Band 5.5.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, with several spelling and word-choice errors throughout the text (e.g., 'Chalfon' for Chalfont, 'libreay', 'chrat', 'categiry', 'remains' instead of remaining, 'grwing' instead of growing). While the student attempts less common vocabulary or percentage descriptions, the high frequency of spelling mistakes and awkward lexical choices (such as 'loans taken by library' or 'audio books') restricts the lexical score. The range is sufficient to communicate basic ideas but causes noticeable distraction for the reader, fitting Band 5.0 descriptors.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The student demonstrates a mix of simple and some attempted complex sentence forms, such as 'From 2007 to 2011 it was increasing gradually.' However, grammatical accuracy is weak, featuring frequent errors in subject-verb agreement and tense usage (e.g., 'There is all three different information given', 'they got decreased', 'Childrens and adults fiction took the similar 38% loan'). Punctuation and article use are also problematic. Although communication is not entirely obscured, the density of errors means that simple sentences are often more accurate than complex ones, justifying a Band 5.0 score.
