Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses the main parts of the task by summarizing information from multiple sources, including the pie chart, table, and bar graph. However, some aspects are under-developed or inaccurately reported. For instance, the overview mentions that adults aged 18-64 reach a value of 'upto 51' without clarifying that this represents a member count from a specific demographic chart, while the data from the bar graph contains significant inaccuracies, such as claiming the loans 'peaked at approximately 210000' instead of around 21,700. While key features are touched upon, the lack of precision and limited extension of ideas restrict the response from achieving a higher band.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The text exhibits a coherent overall arrangement with a clear attempt to structure the response into logical paragraphs, beginning with an introduction followed by an overview, body paragraphs for the categories, and a concluding look at the bar graph. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical or faulty. Phrases like 'In terms, of' introduce unnecessary punctuation and awkward phrasing, and the transitions between sentences can feel disjointed. Paragraphing is present and appropriate, but referencing and logical progression could be smoother to fully satisfy higher band requirements.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is minimally adequate for the task, providing an acceptable range to describe basic trends and categories. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary such as 'fluctuating', 'significant variations', and 'breakdown', but these are accompanied by notable inaccuracies in word choice, form, and collocation, such as writing 'total loan by different categorie' instead of 'categories' and 'young adult' instead of the plural form. Spelling and word-choice errors are noticeable throughout the response, though they do not completely impede communication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as the introductory complex sentence using 'whereas'. However, there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation that persist throughout the text. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues like 'adult of ages 18-64 form' and 'adult fiction has', missing plural markers ('childrens fiction'), and incorrect prepositions or articles. Although these errors rarely completely obscure the meaning, their frequency and the limited control over complex grammatical structures keep the writing at this level.
