Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by reporting on the age of library members, the total loans by category, and the overall trends in total numbers of loans from 2007 to 2016. However, some aspects are more fully developed than others. For example, while the categories and member age percentages are listed, the comparisons between them are relatively basic. The overview provided in the final paragraph attempts to summarise the bar chart's general trend, but the selection of features could be sharper to better highlight the main highlights of the data as a whole.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response maintains a coherent overall arrangement with a logical division into paragraphs that address the different visual elements. However, cohesion is at times faulty and mechanical. The transitions between sentences feel abrupt, such as starting paragraphs with phrases like 'From pie chart' and 'Overall, according to bar chart'. Furthermore, referencing and referencing devices are occasionally unclear, which disrupts the natural flow and progression of ideas throughout the text.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, allowing the student to communicate basic data points such as percentages and categories. There are several spelling and word-choice errors, including 'catagory' instead of 'category', 'childern's' instead of 'children's', and awkward phrasing like 'adult audio books at respectively'. The student attempts less common vocabulary, but these lexical errors and minor inaccuracies in word formation do not severely impede overall communication.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, though attempts at complex structures frequently contain errors. There are noticeable grammatical inaccuracies, such as subject-verb agreement issues in 'total loans by catagory was seen at highest' and missing articles or prepositions in phrases like 'Smallest range was seen of adult 65 and over'. Punctuation and word order errors also appear throughout the text, but while they require effort to parse, they rarely entirely impede comprehension.
